Hendrik | I’ll warrant the monsters have
not yet reached the Last Bastion. This gives us time to strike down the fiend who has plunged our land into darkness. Let us seize our chance! |
Hendrik | Where is everyone? Where is His
Majesty? Surely they cannot have fled the encampment? Come, we must search for them. I fear something may be amiss… |
Hendrik | That was a most raucous
celebration. I have not seen our people smile and laugh like that for a long
time. But then it is not everyday that light returns to our world. Now, I must bid farewell to His Majesty before we depart. Perhaps you should speak to your mother and all those who are dear to you, <pc>. Who knows when you might see them again? |
Hendrik | Know that I am your sword, your
shield, your unswerving companion. I will stand by you until peace is
restored to our world. You are the Luminary, the bringer of hope. You have a long road ahead of you, but it is one you shall not walk alone. Now, let us heed His Majesty’s words and journey to the holy mountain of Pang Lai. |
Hendrik | I heard the Mayor of Cobblestone
speak of the significance the Tor has for the villagers. As I understand it, it is where your prayers reach the Spirit of the Land. Would that my own prayers could also be answered… |
Hendrik | I heard the Mayor of Cobblestone
speak of the significance the Tor has for the villagers. As I understand it, it is where your prayers reach the Spirit of the Land. Would that my own prayers could also be answered… |
Hendrik | You need not fear for your
mother, or your fellow villagers. His Majesty has vowed to protect them, and
protect them he will. Instead we must stay focused on our task—entering the castle. Come, let us first traverse the Manglegrove. |
Hendrik | We must strike down that foul usurper without delay! To the castle! |
Hendrik | Come, let us return to the Last Bastion without delay. We must inform the King of Jasper’s treachery. |
Hendrik | Let us head west through the
Manglegrove to the Costa Valor. According to His Majesty, we must pass through the checkpoint beyond it in order to reach Mount Pang Lai. I do not know what relation those who dwell there have to the destiny of the Luminary, but we must find out. |
Hendrik | Our destination is Heliodor
Castle. I trust you have not forgotten where it is, <pc>? We must traverse the Manglegrove which lies to the west, and gain access to the castle sewers from there. Come, time is short. |
Hendrik | Your mother was most eager that
I ensure your safety, <pc>… We should head back to the Last Bastion without delay. Wandering any further afield will only invite trouble. |
Hendrik | Obsidian is particularly fond of
the grass in this region. Once he starts to graze upon it, it is difficult to
rouse him to depart. Indeed, he would always make time for this grass, even when we were pursuing you. In hindsight, perhaps that was no bad thing… |
Hendrik | Once we traverse this forest, we will reach the hill from where we can enter the castle. But beware—monsters will no doubt seek to strike us under cover of darkness. |
Hendrik | We have no reason to linger in this forest. We must return to the castle at once and carry out our mission. |
Hendrik | Loath as I am to admit it, the
truth is that I harbour an intense dislike of insects of all kinds. I would be grateful if we could return to the Last Bastion without passing through the Manglegrove… |
Hendrik | Loath as I am to admit it, the
truth is that I harbour an intense dislike of insects of all kinds. I would be grateful if we could head west of here and make haste for the Costa Valor. |
Hendrik | I understand that when you and
that blue-haired thief were fleeing the dungeons, you leapt from a cliff in
order to make good your escape. How you survived, I do not know. Now it is time for us to retrace your footsteps and gain access to the sewers from that cliff. Come, we must search for a path up to the cliff—and let us hope that the dragon that dwells in the caves is asleep… |
Hendrik | How long has it been since one could look up and see the sun? How long since I looked up at the sky at all…? |
Hendrik | To reach the Costa Valor, we
will need to head west through the Manglegrove. It lies to the south of this hill. Let us make it our first port of call. |
Hendrik | If my memory serves me correctly, there are no tunnels that lead directly to the throne room. We must head above ground. |
Hendrik | Though I grew up in the castle,
I rarely ventured into these tunnels. As such, I am afraid I do not know where the gate His Majesty spoke of is located. All I know is that it will likely be marked with the royal crest. Come, let us search every corner of the sewers. |
Hendrik | There is a staircase that leads
to the King’s chambers behind a cupboard in the kitchen. From there, we can
access the throne room. Come, let us head into the castle. |
Hendrik | It seems a shame to be down here
in the gloom now that the skies are bright once more. Let us return to the Last Bastion, <pc>. His Majesty awaits us. |
Hendrik | I know that we were but pawns in the Lord of Shadows’ game, but it pains me still to think that I was responsible for your incarceration in the dungeons. I am sorry… |
Hendrik | The darkness which blotted out
the sun appeared to emanate from the castle. I sense that the foul beast responsible for it is close at hand. We must enter the castle without delay. |
Hendrik | Come, let us find another way to enter the throne room. The usurper will be there, if he is anywhere. He will pay for defiling the noble crown of Heliodor! |
Hendrik | The darkness which blotted out
the sun appeared to emanate from the castle. I sense that the foul beast responsible for it is close at hand. We must head to the upper floors. Ah, but it pains me to see my beloved castle in such a state of disrepair. The foul beasts who did this will pay! |
Hendrik | You have a curious power,
<pc>. Whenever I am with you, hope seems to dawn upon us, like sunlight
breaking through the clouds. I do not know who or what awaits us in the throne room, but I know what we have to do. We must strike down the foul usurper and bring the light back to this realm. I will allow nothing to stand in our way. |
Hendrik | The kitchen is on the north side
of the castle. Once there, we must access a staircase concealed behind a
cupboard. That will allow us to reach the throne room. Come, <pc>, let us not tarry any further. |
Hendrik | The castle is in a terrible
state of disrepair. It will be a very long time before it is fit for royal
habitation once again. Princess Jade would be deeply distressed if she were to see what has become of her home. No one cherished the beauty of Heliodor more than her… |
Hendrik | Once peace returns to our world, Heliodor must be rebuilt. I will not rest until the kingdom that raised me is restored to its full splendour. |
Hendrik | All I know of this place, I
learnt from a boyhood companion. He would read endless books about the
kingdom’s history… …But that is no longer of any significance. All that matters is that we gain access to the castle. We must traverse the Manglegrove and enter the castle through the sewers. Come, we have no time to lose. |
Hendrik | That vision the tree showed us
was an episode from my youth. I had forgotten all about it… It seems that this is the power of the Luminary. You are able to draw on the memories amassed within the World Tree and pry into others’ pasts… |
Hendrik | This appears to be some kind of girls’ school. I fear it is no place for us… |

Hendrik | You may have been separated from
your companions, <pc>, but I believe they must be out there
somewhere. We cannot dwell on that now, however. We must proceed to Mount Pang Lai. With luck we will find the power to defeat the Lord of Shadows. |
Hendrik | This place reminds me of my
youth. I spent some time in a town in this region… But that is of no consequence now—the King has instructed us to travel to Mount Pang Lai, and seek those whose fate is deeply intertwined with that of the Luminary. We need to head north and find the checkpoint of which His Majesty spoke. Come, let us go there without delay. |
Hendrik | Could the inhabitants of
Angri-La be the people His Majesty spoke of? Could they hold the key to
defeating the Lord of Shadows? Hmm… Alas, this is no time for idle speculation—let us go there and find out more. |
Hendrik | Those who dwell on Mount Pang
Lai are said to have some deep connection with the Luminary. Let us climb to the mountain’s peak and see if there is one who can teach us how to defeat the Lord of Shadows. |
Hendrik | That young monk divined your
true identity with a single glance, <pc>. His Majesty was not wrong—the
people here must surely possess some powerful connection to the
Luminary. We should do as he suggests and join him in the High Hall at the top of the temple. |
Hendrik | How long has it been since I
last came to Puerto Valor? It has certainly been many a moon since I honed my
sword skills under the formidable Don Rodrigo, the lord of this domain. We trained every day, from morning until night, the vast ocean below us. Watching those endless roiling waves taught me much about the harshness of nature. But this is not the town I once knew. Its people are cowed by the Lord of Shadows. I will not rest until that fear is banished from the land. |
Hendrik | This town has changed greatly
since I came here as a young man. Building a casino here would have been
unthinkable back then… I have no interest in such places—do what you have to do and then let us leave. |
Hendrik | I confess, this Sylvando fellow is rather impressive. There are not many who could command such devotion. |
Hendrik | ……… I confess, I am yet to fully understand Sylvando’s intentions in orchestrating this parade of his. Still, I am glad that you have been reunited with one of your companions. That is a source of great comfort to me. |
Hendrik | ……… I confess, I am yet to fully understand Sylvando’s intentions in orchestrating this parade of his. Still, I am glad that you have been reunited with one of your companions. That is a source of great comfort to me. |
Hendrik | Accursed Mordegon… His shadow
has fallen here too, and rendered it barely recognisable… We must learn how to defeat the Lord of Shadows, and to that end we must travel to Mount Pang Lai. Let us delay no longer. |
Hendrik | It seems Sylvando has ventured
into the village to conduct his investigation. I can only hope he uncovers the truth of what has happened here. Something is very wrong, that much is clear… |
Hendrik | You have encountered this place
before, <pc>? Well, whatever history you have with it, there is no reason for you to be here now. Let us depart without delay. |
Hendrik | The High Lama said that he
wished to speak with you at the Field of Discipline. I believe it is located within the Angri-La temple complex. |
Hendrik | It seems this hermit braved the
monster-ridden slopes of Mount Pang Lai without assistance. I have no idea who he is, but he must have a very good reason for coming here… |
Hendrik | The High Lama can perform a rite
which will transport us to the place between worlds. That appears to be our
only option at the moment. We should not tarry here. He awaits us at the top of the mountain. |
Hendrik | You say Lord Robert is alive and
well, but he remains trapped within the void. You must bring him back. We should not tarry here. The High Lama awaits you at the top of the mountain. It is time to return to the place between worlds… |
Hendrik | Lord Robert will prove an
invaluable ally. After all, he has learnt one of the supreme skills performed
by the legendary wizard Morcant. If all of your old companions are similarly accomplished then we have nothing to fear from the Lord of Shadows. |
Hendrik | If Dundrasil had not been
destroyed, you would surely have been sent here to study under Grand Master
Pang’s tutelage. But that was not to be. Still, what is done is done—for now, we must do as the High Lama instructs, and follow him to the Field of Discipline. |
Hendrik | The original Luminary and
Morcant, his wizard companion, trained here together. Doubtless they learnt
much. This place has an extraordinary history. Should time allow, I would very much like to accompany the High Lama on a tour of the Field of Discipline. |
Hendrik | We remain no closer to finding a
means of bearding the Lord of Shadows in his den, <pc>… The High Lama awaits us outside the High Hall. Come, let us go and speak with him. |
Hendrik | It would appear that some who
train here go to extraordinary lengths to make their circumstances as harsh
as possible. Perhaps that is what the hermit had in mind when he set out for the summit of the mountain… |
Hendrik | It is good to see you awake and
alert once more. When your spirit returned to your body atop Mount Pang Lai,
you were so weak. I feared that you would never fully recover. I hear that Lord Robert rose a short while ago, and has stepped out to speak with the High Lama. We should go to him. In his attenuated state, he will no doubt require our assistance. |
Hendrik | The High Lama says he had
prepared a special training program for us. I would be interested to visit
the Field of Discipline to learn more. The rigorous training that takes place on Mount Pang Lai is legendary. I am certain that we would benefit from taking part. |
Hendrik | I can see a human figure atop
the staircase up ahead. Could that be the hermit we seek? Come, let us take a closer look. |
Hendrik | These conditions are harsh
indeed. The air is thin, and it is bitterly cold. No ordinary person could
survive here for any length of time. What would this hermit be doing here? |
Hendrik | There is no time for hesitation.
Your grandfather will surely perish if you do nothing. You must allow the High Lama to perform the rite so that you can bring Lord Robert back to the world of the living. |
Hendrik | It is a relief to know that Lord
Robert had not tired of life, but had ventured into the void in order to seek
out Grand Master Pang. Still, it is too soon for celebration. He must be returned to this world without delay. That is something only you can do, <pc>. Go and talk to the High Lama and prepare to enter the void… |
Hendrik | We may no longer be able to
visit Grand Master Pang, but already she has taught you much. You have grown stronger, I can sense it. Believe in yourself and nothing will be beyond you. |
Hendrik | How very peaceful this place is. I was raised among rough and rowdy warriors-to-be, with the sound of clashing swords and the smell of sweat ever in the air. This school is…different. |
Hendrik | I fear for the safety of the hermit who departed for the peak of Mount Pang Lai. When you have finished doing…whatever it is that you are doing, let us go to him. |
Hendrik | I fear that we are Erdrea’s only
hope. We are the only ones who can defeat the Lord of Shadows. We cannot hope to accomplish this without your friends’ assistance, however. Seeking them out must be our first priority. |
Hendrik | I shall always have fond memories of this place. Encountering Sylvando and his parade for the first time was memorable, to say the least. |
Hendrik | Have I already told you about
the years I spent in training in Puerto Valor?<yesno> I have? Very well. Then I shall not repeat myself. Instead, we should make haste and head for the town itself. It is located on the Costa Valor, which lies north-east of here. The enormous bridge makes it easy to identify. I see… Then perhaps I should inform you that during my time there I was a student of Don Rodrigo’s. He taught me the art of swordsmanship. I studied alongside his son, Norberto. The training was hard, but I believe we offered each other invaluable support. Norberto had a bright future ahead of him—he was destined to become a knight of great renown, though that is not quite how things turned out… But enough idle chatter. Hendrik | The abducted villagers appear to
be alive and well—that will come as a relief to everyone back in Phnom
Nonh. It is just a shame Son’s mother’s necklace appears to be broken. Da will doubtless be disappointed. Sylvando has taken the boy back to his father’s house. I suggest we pay them a visit. |
Hendrik | It would appear that Son was not
abducted by monsters after all. I admire his courage, if not his
recklessness. In any case, it is up to us to come to the child’s aid—now we have another reason to defeat Avarith. |
Hendrik | ‘A knight’s word is his bond…’
Where could Sylvando have learnt the Pledge…? Hmm? Oh, ignore my musings. Our focus must be on dealing with Avarith. She sounds like a formidable foe indeed. We must not take her lightly. |

Hendrik | The fall of Yggdrasil has taken
its toll even here… This place was once a paradise on Erdrea, but now that the Lord of Shadows reigns supreme, one cannot know what horrors lurk behind every corner. Be on your guard, <pc>. |
Hendrik | The young men in the parade have
doubtless played their part in brightening the mood of the village. Now we must do our bit and defeat the Lord of Shadows. If his influence is allowed to grow unchecked, I fear these smiles will not last long… |
Hendrik | The young men in the parade have
doubtless played their part in brightening the mood of the village. Our work here is done. Let us join Norberto—Sylvando, I mean—in Puerto Valor. |
Hendrik | It seems Son had taken the lie
his father told Avarith at face value. Still, he showed courage in returning home to face his father. Once again, it seems there are few misunderstandings that cannot be resolved through honest discussion. Incidentally, I am concerned about Sylvando. We should be able to find him in the village. Let us check that all is well. |
Hendrik | It is a relief to see the return
of the abducted villagers. The unbridled joy everyone feels is impressive
indeed. I am still concerned about Son, however. Perhaps we should pay a visit to Da’s house and see how their reunion is proceeding. |
Hendrik | After what Son has told us, perhaps it is better not to tell Da that we have found his boy… |
Hendrik | It seems Sylvando has ventured
into the village to conduct his investigation. I can only hope he uncovers the truth of what has happened here. Something is very wrong, that much is clear… |
Hendrik | Having Norberto—forgive me,
Sylvando—accompany us on our journey will not be without its disadvantages, I
fear, but there is no doubt that he is a most capable warrior. Now, I believe he said his ship was anchored to the east of Puerto Valor. Let us set sail and see what we can discover. |
Hendrik | We need to visit Don Rodrigo, do we not? We should return to Puerto Valor… |
Hendrik | I confess, I was baffled by the
parade at first. Over time, however, I have come to see that they are
diligent and talented young men, if perhaps a little flamboyant for my
tastes… It might be easy to mock their stated mission of returning smiles to people’s faces, but I would not be surprised were they to accomplish it. |
Hendrik | Puerto Valor means a great deal
to me. I have so many fond memories of this place—now it is incumbent upon us
to return it to its former glory. Norber— I mean, Sylvando, asked us to go ahead to Don Rodrigo’s villa. We should not tarry any longer. |

Hendrik | So it is true. I scarcely believed it possible for a star to fall from the sky, but now I have seen it with my own eyes. |
Hendrik | It seems the people of
Gallopolis have either fled or given in to despair. I can only sympathise with their plight. If the star were to collide with the kingdom, it would bring unimaginable death and destruction. |
Hendrik | The Sultan has shown admirable fortitude. He has not abandoned his palace or his people. |
Hendrik | So this is the famed racecourse
of Gallopolis. I always wanted to compete, and prove the superiority of
Heliodorian horsemanship. Perhaps one day I might come here again with Obsidian. But there is much to be done before that day comes. |
Hendrik | I understand that back when I
was pursuing you, you found refuge here after you evaded me in
Heliodor. To think of how loyally I carried out the King’s orders then fills me with shame. Little did I know his true nature. Or yours. |

his peace with Sylvando’s choice of career a long time ago. Even so, they may

prepared a special training program for us. I would be interested to visit
the Field of Discipline to learn more. The rigorous training that takes place on Mount Pang Lai is legendary. I am certain that we would benefit from taking part. |
Hendrik | It would appear that some who
train here go to extraordinary lengths to make their circumstances as harsh
as possible. Perhaps that is what the hermit had in mind when he set out for the summit of the mountain… |
Hendrik | The original Luminary and
Morcant, his wizard companion, trained here together. Doubtless they learnt
much. This place has an extraordinary history. Should time allow, I would very much like to accompany the High Lama on a tour of the Field of Discipline. |
Hendrik | If Dundrasil had not been
destroyed, you would surely have been sent here to study under Grand Master
Pang’s tutelage. But that was not to be. Still, what is done is done—for now, we must do as the High Lama instructs, and follow him to the Field of Discipline. |
Hendrik | They say those who dwell here
have a deep connection with the Luminary, and indeed the young man who
welcomed you knew precisely who you were… Let us do as he requested and meet him in the High Hall. |
Hendrik | We may no longer be able to
visit Grand Master Pang, but already she has taught you much. You have grown stronger, I can sense it. Believe in yourself and nothing will be beyond you. |
Hendrik | There is no time for hesitation.
Your grandfather will surely perish if you do nothing. You must allow the High Lama to perform the rite so that you can bring Lord Robert back to the world of the living. |
Hendrik | So it is true. I scarcely believed it possible for a star to fall from the sky, but now I have seen it with my own eyes. |
Or yours. |
Hendrik | This place… It is exactly as I
remember it… But this is no time to be wallowing in old memories. Come, <pc>—we must push on. |
Hendrik | Alizarin was the Lord of
Shadows’ servant, and now that he is defeated, the oppressive atmosphere that
hung over the ocean has been banished. Doubtless the people who live by the coast are overjoyed. It would be no bad idea to pay them a visit at some point and see how they are faring. |
Hendrik | The beast Alizarin was
formidable indeed—it is hard to imagine how powerful its master must
be… All I know is that if this fiend is ruling the oceans, those who dwell by the coast must be suffering. We cannot allow this to go on. |
Hendrik | It is hard to believe beings
like this exist beneath the waves. But though they are alien to me, the pain of having to flee one’s home is one that I have shared. We must do all we can to help them return. |
Hendrik | It is hard to believe beings
like this exist beneath the waves. But though they are alien to me, the pain of having to flee one’s home is one that I have shared. At least they can return now. |
Hendrik | I heard about what happened when
Jasper pursued you here, <pc>. At the time, I could scarcely believe he
had let the Darkspawn escape… So much has changed since then. It is strange to think about now… |
Hendrik | The people of this area are entirely reliant on fishing. Without safe seas, they cannot hope to survive for long. We must do all we can to relieve their suffering. |
Hendrik | With the fiend Alizarin
defeated, the people here can take to the seas once more. We have done well to relieve their suffering, <pc>. |
Hendrik | Mmmngh…! Hnnnghhh! (gasp)
(pant) I, I, I can breathe! I… I thought I was about to drown… Ah, but perhaps I should have grown used to such curious developments by now. The path the Luminary must tread is no ordinary one, after all. |
Hendrik | The students here still have
their lives ahead of them. Their eyes still shine with the light of
hope. We must not let them down. We must not rest until the Lord of Shadows is no more and peace has returned to our world. |
Hendrik | Since the fall of Yggdrasil, a
terrible shadow has descended upon the world. Yet even so, people survive,
though their lives be blighted by hunger and fear. Mordegon no doubt hoped that he would snuff out people’s will to live, but man is not so easily cowed. On behalf of everyone, we must show him that the world will not give in to despair. We must show him that we will never bow to him! |
Hendrik | So it is true. I scarcely believed it possible for a star to fall from the sky, but now I have seen it with my own eyes. |

Heliodor. To think of how loyally I carried out the King’s orders then fills me with shame. Little did I know his true nature. Or yours. |
Hendrik | I was but a child when I first
heard the tale of Erdwin turning into a star. I thought it a fitting end for
a hero. But now it seems that Erdwin’s Lantern threatens all of Erdrea. Truly, the workings of this world are so hard to fathom… |
Hendrik | The Prince of Gallopolis appears
to be an admirer of mine. This is naturally a great honour. He would be welcome to join my unit, once these tumultuous times are over, though I suspect he may need a little more training… |
Hendrik | I have stared at the Lantern long and hard, and yet I feel as though I have learnt nothing at all… |
Hendrik | What was that thing? No man
could possess the strength to cleave a star in two… Prince Faris appears to believe it was our saviour. Alas, I fear that he may be gravely mistaken… |
Hendrik | Erdwin and his companions forged
the Sword of Light themselves, did they not? That means we must do the
same. Erdwin was a great man, of course—but a man nonetheless. There is no reason why you cannot replicate his achievements, <pc>. |
Hendrik | It seems the people of
Gallopolis have either fled or given in to despair. I can only sympathise with their plight. If the star were to collide with the kingdom, it would bring unimaginable death and destruction. |
Hendrik | I did not have a clear view of
the Lantern’s destruction, so I cannot be sure precisely what happened. Could someone really have been capable of slicing a star in half…? |
Hendrik | Gallopolis is famed for its
horses. Indeed, this is where Obsidian was born. I wonder if he misses his hometown? Perhaps I should bring him back here one day… |
Hendrik | The Forging Hammer is
exceptionally light and easy to swing. Indeed, it seems to have been designed
with those who are not professional smiths in mind. Truth be told, I would rather like to use it as a weapon, though I daresay that would be somewhat ill-advised… |
Hendrik | The Sultan has shown admirable fortitude. He has not abandoned his palace or his people. |
Hendrik | I confess, when I first laid
eyes on Prince Faris, I feared for the future of his kingdom. However, he has
proved to be braver and more capable than I had thought. He certainly has the desire to protect his people—and that is by far the most important virtue that any knight can have. |
Hendrik | So this is the famed racecourse
of Gallopolis. I always wanted to compete, and prove the superiority of
Heliodorian horsemanship. Perhaps one day I might come here again with Obsidian. But there is much to be done before that day comes. |
Hendrik | Doubtless there are fine horses
here, but none can compare to Obsidian. Once the world is at peace, I shall bring him here and display his prowess for all to see. |
Hendrik | I confess, I was never academic.
Even when King Carnelian took it upon himself to educate me, I would often
glaze over during lessons. The few things I did learn have stood me in good stead ever since. Needless to say, I now wish I had taken my studies more seriously… |
Hendrik | With every battle, we gain
experience and grow stronger. Let us continue to fight and hone our skills in preparation for the ultimate challenge: Mordegon. |
Hendrik | How extraordinary… I have no idea how this place was constructed—and I suspect that questions of who built it and how shall forever remain a mystery. |
Hendrik | Ancient legends may have spoken of a forge within the volcano, but it is nowhere to be seen. |
Hendrik | I learnt how to forge weapons in
my youth, but I have never encountered a metal as hard as orichalcum. A sword forged from it could surely stand up to anything wielded by the Lord of Shadows. I look forward to seeing the finished article on the battlefield! |
Hendrik | Hmm… That was unlike any
puff-puff I have seen before… …I, I mean, what is this ‘puff-puff’ of which you speak? The word is most unfamiliar to me. Perhaps we should speak of other things instead. Such as the weather. Or swords. I like swords. Ahem… |
Hendrik | It seems a fierce battle was
fought here in ancient times… It is easy to credit. Though it was long ago, the spirits of the fallen still appear to haunt this place. |
Hendrik | I understand that back when I
was pursuing you, you found refuge here after you evaded me in
Heliodor. To think of how loyally I carried out the King’s orders then fills me with shame. Little did I know his true nature. Or yours. |
Hendrik | Surely not… Surely it could
not have— Ah… Forgive me. This is no time for my idle musings. Let us press on. |
Hendrik | King Irwin was a great warrior,
as well as a great monarch. Indeed, before he was married, he was the leader
of the legendary Drasilian knights. All of us who take the Pledge are in awe of his achievements. |
Hendrik | Is there a reason we are
wandering around here? Surely we must return to the dungeons of Dundrasil and vanquish the beast that is tormenting King Irwin. |
Hendrik | There is much to be done. The
Spectral Sentinels must be defeated, and your lost friends must be
found. Now that the powers of the Luminary have been restored to you, I feel certain we can succeed in our quest and bring peace to the world once more. |
Hendrik | Princess Jade is in
Octagonia? I confess, the thought of seeing her again makes me uneasy. Mordegon may have deceived me, but it still does not excuse my conduct the last time we met… |
Hendrik | Dundrasil was a place of great
beauty, both in its landscapes and the hearts of its people. That Mordegon could destroy it all without compunction is unforgivable. He must pay for what he has done. |
Hendrik | I was in the dungeon on that
terrible day, and yet I could not save King Irwin. Now that we know King Carnelian was under the influence of Mordegon, it all seems so clear. I only wish I had seen it at the time. But my regrets are worth naught now, and no apology will suffice… No, all I can do now is fight alongside you in the battle against Mordegon. I vow that I will defend you with my life, if needs be. |
Hendrik | We must be wary. I sense a presence up ahead… |
Hendrik | It seems you have discovered
something of great importance. You must share it with us—but first we must vanquish this monster and free King Irwin from his misery! |
Hendrik | I am impressed by the way the
young ladies here have organised their own physical training regime. If they are diligent, some of them may even have the potential to become fine knights… |
Hendrik | I cannot bear the thought of the
Princess of Heliodor alone in a place like this… It is my duty to find her and rescue her from this den of iniquity without delay. |
Hendrik | So it is true. I scarcely believed it possible for a star to fall from the sky, but now I have seen it with my own eyes. |

Hendrik | I fear that we are wasting time.
Now that we know Princess Jade’s whereabouts, we should not be wandering
aimlessly here. We must head for Octagonia without delay. She may be in danger. |
Hendrik | It is a relief indeed to know
that Princess Jade is alive and well. If some misfortune had befallen her, it would have been my responsibility. I had already prepared myself for a life of solitude and self-flagellation on Mount Pang Lai. It— Wait! Might this be another example of the ‘knightly nonsense’ that Her Highness was mocking? But it is not nonsense—I mean every word of it… |
Hendrik | There appears to be no sign of Princess Jade anywhere. Where could she be? If these monsters have harmed her in any way, they shall answer to me! |
Hendrik | It is surprising indeed to find
a labyrinth such as this beneath the city… But our only concern now should be Princess Jade’s well-being, and she does not appear to be here. We should leave immediately and look elsewhere. |
Hendrik | Lord Robert told me about the
monster you fought here. I too faced this beast in my youth, but let it
escape. Back then, I was still a callow youth. Now I would make sure I finished the job. |
Hendrik | The entire school is filled with
the aroma of fresh flowers. It reminds me of home. Zwaardsrust was known as
the ‘Kingdom of Flowers’. Ah, but I must not allow myself to wallow in sentimentality. No good will come of that, not when we have so much still to do… |
Hendrik | Both the monster who had
Princess Jade under his spell and the beast who attacked the Last Bastion
referred to themselves as Spectral Sentinels… I have a feeling those are not the only ones. We must find any who remain and slay them without mercy. |
Hendrik | Loyalty has always been my
guiding principle. I dedicated myself utterly to the service of King
Carnelian, and the kingdom of Heliodor. However, the world has changed. Blind loyalty to others is no longer enough. Now we must stand together, fighting for a common cause. Mordegon must be defeated, and we shall do it side by side. No longer will I follow. |
Hendrik | So it is true. I scarcely believed it possible for a star to fall from the sky, but now I have seen it with my own eyes. |

Hendrik | This mountain is no place for
children. It is not safe. Come, <pc>. Let us take the western path and investigate this hideout the boy spoke of. |
Hendrik | Wherever we go, we find people
plagued by fearsome monsters… Let us hurry to the mountain path where this fiend was sighted. We shall not let it continue to threaten the people of Hotto! |
Hendrik | So the monster Miko spoke of
turned out to be nothing more than children in disguise. We should report this to her, but first we must learn the truth about the mountain. What secret does it conceal? |
Hendrik | I cannot help feeling that we
should have engaged the dragon in combat, but for now it is out of
reach. Let us return to Hotto and confront Miko with the truth. |
Hendrik | I confess, I had little sympathy
for the people of Hotto upon learning of their plan to make a human
sacrifice. But now they are in mortal danger and we cannot stand idly by. Come, <pc>, let us return to the fray! |
Hendrik | The village has been saved for
now, but the dragon escaped with its life… Curses! We were so close to
defeating the beast… This is not over, <pc>. We must face it again. But we must tread with caution—few things are fiercer than a wounded dragon. |
Hendrik | When we first learnt of what
Miko was planning, I thought she was a heartless wretch… Once again, I have seen that there is always more to people than we can ever imagine. Come, <pc>, Atsuo awaits us at the gate. We must see how this unfolds. |
Hendrik | I, too, balk at the thought of
slaying the dragon, knowing that it was once a man… But the boy waits for us, and we cannot shirk our duty. Come, <pc>, make your peace with what we must do. This cannot be delayed forever. |
Hendrik | Ryu had already been transformed
into the dragon by the time we arrived here. It was too late to save him. Though it is painful to admit, we could not have done more. |
Hendrik | No one can predict what lies ahead, but we can make sure that we are always prepared for battle. |
Hendrik | I still cannot accept that the
people here would contemplate making a human sacrifice. No matter what mortal danger your village is in, surely there are some lines that cannot be crossed… |
Hendrik | Were those children engaged in a
mere prank, or do they have some more serious purpose? Come, let us find their hideout. We need to learn more. |
Hendrik | When my homeland was destroyed,
all local rites and traditions were lost… It is clear that the spirit of the mountain is at the centre of the people’s lives here. We must respect that, and do what we can to help them. |
Hendrik | Pretending to be a monster
hardly seems a judicious course, but those children were only doing what they
could to protect their mother. I can understand their actions, at
least. As for the people of Hotto, I am afraid I cannot be so forgiving. There is never any excuse to sacrifice the life of another to ensure your own safety. |
Hendrik | I cannot help feeling that we
should have engaged the dragon in combat, but for now it is out of
reach. Let us return to Hotto and confront Miko with the truth. |
Hendrik | I confess, I still do not fully
understand you, <pc>. You have survived the onslaught of enemy armies and yet now you run from a single dragon? This cannot be right. Come, we must return to Hotto. |
Hendrik | Ryu is already lost, <pc>.
We must slay the dragon. If there is any trace of the man left within it, perhaps it will bring him some relief to be freed from the curse. |
Hendrik | Ryu was gifted his true form at
the very end, but it came at a heavy price. The Seeing Glass did nothing from the outside, but when he swallowed it, its powers finally worked. Nothing is predictable in life, it seems… |
Hendrik | Miko did all she could to
protect Ryu. She even sacrificed her own life… I wonder what she would have thought if she had lived to see us defeat the dragon… |
Hendrik | Since Yggdrasil fell, monsters
have become more wild and unpredictable. I wonder if any of the monsters who
were studying here were affected… Of course, if any of them were to become possessed by evil and turn on their fellow students, we would have no choice but to— No, I shall stop there. We did not come here to fight schoolgirls. Let us resolve this chaos by toppling the one who is behind it all—the Lord of Shadows. |
Hendrik | With every battle, we gain
experience and grow stronger. Let us continue to fight and hone our skills in preparation for the ultimate challenge: Mordegon. |
Hendrik | We must come together and forge
the Sword of Light, just as the first Luminary and his companions did before
us. Their names live now in legend, but they were also but flesh and blood. If they did it, there is no reason why we cannot. |
Hendrik | How extraordinary… I have no idea how this place was constructed—and I suspect that questions of who built it and how shall forever remain a mystery. |
Hendrik | Ancient legends may have spoken of a forge within the volcano, but it is nowhere to be seen. |

Hendrik | Unless we find the hammer Erdwin
used to forge the Sword of Light, we will be unable to make one of our
own. Our situation is clear, <pc>. Without that hammer, we stand no chance of defeating the Lord of Shadows. |
Hendrik | The Sultan has shown admirable fortitude. He has not abandoned his palace nor his people. |
Hendrik | So this is the famed racecourse
of Gallopolis. I always wanted to compete, and prove the superiority of
Heliodorian horsemanship. Perhaps one day I might come here again with Obsidian. But there is much to be done before that day comes. |
Hendrik | If it had not been for you, the
Princess might still be in that monster’s thrall. I must offer you my
gratitude. King Carnelian would do the same if he were here, I am sure. As for our next step, I fear I can offer little in the way of guidance. First we learn of a harp that allows one to journey beneath the sea, then we find Erik in such a strange state… It has all left me quite bewildered. |
Hendrik | I once hunted Erik as a common
thief—I know first-hand his ability to elude the most pressing danger. …I can only hope the Princess boasts similar talents. |
Hendrik | Those monsters have stolen every
last scrap of treasure from the people of Sniflheim. And that is but the
least of it… Stealing the bodies of those affected by Gold Fever is truly unforgivable. On my honour as a knight of Heliodor, I cannot allow this crime to go unpunished! |
Hendrik | We know not what wicked scheme this Gyldygga creature had in mind when it commanded its forces to steal the bodies of the Fever victims. Let us proceed with the utmost caution. |
Hendrik | You saw that enormous golden
castle, did you not? It seems certain that it is where we shall encounter Gyldygga, the Spectral Sentinel… |
Hendrik | Gyldygga, the shining star of
the Spectral Sentinels… Every monster to have claimed such an allegiance
thus far has been a formidable foe indeed. We must not let our guards down for one instant. |
Hendrik | Gyldygga, the shining star of
the Spectral Sentinels… Every monster to have claimed such an allegiance
thus far has been a formidable foe indeed. Though it may be Erik’s sister at heart, it is a danger to the world. We cannot allow sentimentality to stay our hands. The beast must be destroyed. |
Hendrik | At long last, the people of
Sniflheim can go about their lives without fear of being struck down by Gold
Fever. Our work here is done. Come, <pc>—onward, to Arboria. |
Hendrik | Is it merely my imagination, or
did Erik blanch the moment we alighted in Sniflheim harbour? The boy seems
unwell. Could it be that he has some connection with this place? |
Hendrik | How long has it been since we
fought back-to-back to protect the Last Bastion? Travelling the world with you and your companions has made me realise the strength of the ties that bind you. Jasper and I did not share such a bond. Perhaps I am therefore in no position to offer such advice, but I bid you, Luminary—treasure those friendships. |
Hendrik | To turn people to gold when they
least suspect it… Truly, this plague is a vicious one. We know nothing of its origins or of how it spreads, only its name—Gold Fever. Could this be the Lord of Shadows’ doing too? |
Hendrik | If Erik was raised by Vikings,
why did he not follow in their footsteps? Why did he leave their fellowship
and become a thief? The Sniflheimian Vikings are known to sail the northern seas, hunting for treasure. Might something untoward have happened on one of their raiding voyages, perhaps? |
Hendrik | Did you see the ship that drew
into the harbour? No doubt you heard the screams that heralded its
arrival. It would seem that Sniflheim has some unwelcome visitors. Come, <pc>—let us ready ourselves for battle and hurry to the city gates. |
Hendrik | It was only by the strength of
their will and the bonds they shared that Erik and his sister survived their
days of pain and penury. I, too, grew up without parents, without a homeland to call my own. Though our paths took us in very different directions, perhaps Erik and I are not so dissimilar after all… |
Hendrik | There was one thing in the
vision of Erik’s past that stood out to me in particular… His sister expressed a desire for the Red Orb of Heliodor, did she not? Is that why Erik was so fixated on stealing it? |
Hendrik | Now we know why Erik stole the
Red Orb. To fulfil his late sister’s last request… To atone for the curse
he put upon her… Speaking of his sister—what has become of her statue? It could not have moved of its own accord. Did those thieving fiends steal that too? |
Hendrik | Forgive me, <pc>. I was so
preoccupied with defeating those fiends that I failed to notice their
accomplices absconding with Erik. Rest assured that I shall not fall for such a feint again. We will find Erik, save him, and make those monsters pay for their crimes! |
Hendrik | This castle seems to be made
entirely out of gold. How in the world did the monsters manage to amass it in
such quantities? No doubt Gyldygga meant this stronghold to serve as proof of his power. Alas, it proves naught but the extent of his avarice and ostentation. |
Hendrik | Truly, it comes as a blessed
relief to hear the happy laughter of children resounding in this benighted
world. Their smiles, their laughter, their future—it must be protected! Mordegon must be defeated! |
Hendrik | So it is true. I scarcely believed it possible for a star to fall from the sky, but now I have seen it with my own eyes. |

Hendrik | I understand that back when I
was pursuing you, you found refuge here after you evaded me in
Heliodor. To think of how loyally I carried out the King’s orders then fills me with shame. Little did I know his true nature. Or yours. |
Hendrik | Veronica and Serena, the famous
twins… When I was on your trail, their names would often appear in my
scouts’ reports. I pictured them as demons in human form, aiding the Darkspawn in spreading chaos and destruction throughout Erdrea… Can you imagine? Truly, there can be no surer proof of the madness Mordegon wrought in Heliodor than the fact that we would believe two innocent young ladies to be monsters. |
Hendrik | The Princess has given me a
description of Veronica: a little girl with blonde pigtails wearing a red
bonnet. I thought it rather odd that she should describe Serena’s twin as a ‘little girl’. Is she less…mature than her sister? Well, no matter. If she is as capable a mage as the Princess says, she shall make a fine ally. |
Hendrik | The Calamus flute has a clean,
clear tone, and yet its melody seems very sombre. I should like to listen to it at length, but alas, after a few short notes we are whisked onto Cetacea’s back. Remind me to listen closely the next time you are about to play. |
Hendrik | I… I have never felt more furious at fate, nor more reproachful towards myself… |
Hendrik | The Princess has been scared of
heights ever since she was a girl, and yet she seems completely unafraid when
we ride Cetacea. It seems that no matter what unexpected manoeuvres the creature makes, one feels neither the wind nor the risk of falling. Very curious… |
Hendrik | I failed to see through
Mordegon’s disguise. Not only that, but I was the one who brought him to the
World Tree… And now, because of me, Veronica is… Agh, how could I have been so foolish? |
Hendrik | This day has been long and arduous. Come, we must rest. |
Hendrik | Seeing this village once more
gives a stark reminder of what we must do. We must defeat Mordegon and restore peace to the world. That is the duty we owe to those who are no longer with us. |
Hendrik | A whale that flies through the
air… If summoning such a creature is but a part of the Luminary’s power, I
cannot imagine what manner of miracle awaits us next. But…why would the divine being be a whale, of all things? Truly, the heavens work in mysterious ways… |
Hendrik | But our hearts live forever
in…l’Académie de Notre Maître des Médailles… Doo doo doo… ♪ …A-Ah, <pc>! Pray forgive my inane muttering. I simply cannot get that song out of my head. |
Hendrik | That structure at the top of the
island appears to be some sort of temple…but its architecture is unlike
anything I have seen before. Perhaps those who built it come from a culture entirely dissimilar to our own… Perhaps they still live there even today… |
Hendrik | How strange… This island is enormous, and yet it is completely invisible from the ground below. How in the world has it remained hidden? |
Hendrik | So it is true. I scarcely believed it possible for a star to fall from the sky, but now I have seen it with my own eyes. |
Or yours. |
Hendrik | Never could I have imagined a
people whose home was high in the sky, among the clouds… And to think, they have been here since the beginning. They have done well to keep their existence hidden. |
Hendrik | The Watcher told us that the
Guiding Light has been burning since the beginning of time. Such a claim sounded preposterous at first, and yet it clearly possesses an extraordinary power… |
Hendrik | The ore that Erdwin was holding
was unlike any material I have ever seen. As one who knows the rudiments of smithery and who has some experience of the forge, I can tell that it was something truly exceptional… |
Hendrik | The hammer that Erdwin wielded
did not appear to be a weapon. It was more akin to a tool that one would use
in a forge. I studied the rudiments of smithery, and know something of the subject… Yet I am at a loss as to what this might mean. |
Hendrik | We must come together and forge
the Sword of Light, just as the first Luminary and his companions did before
us. Their names live now in legend, but they were also but flesh and blood. If they did it, there is no reason why we cannot. |
Hendrik | You feel it too, don’t you,
<pc>? All the trials we have been through have only served to make us
stronger. Now that you wield the Sword of Light, we have nothing to fear from the Lord of Shadows. Yes, we were defeated before, but things have changed. It is time to go to him. It is time to finish this. |
Hendrik | It is incredible to think that people on the ground are completely unaware that places like this exist above them… |
Hendrik | I learnt how to forge weapons in
my youth, but I have never encountered a metal as hard as orichalcum. |
Hendrik | When I first saw monsters
dressed in school uniforms I thought it outrageous, but now I think it rather
suits them. Perhaps a day will come when all monsters will adopt good manners and dress properly. Stranger things have happened. |
Hendrik | The longer the Lord of Shadows
stands unopposed, the more the people of the world will suffer. We must find the power of which Father Benedictus spoke, and defeat Mordegon without delay. |
Hendrik | All victories on the battlefield are the result of meticulous preparation. We should check that our weapons and supplies are in order before venturing any further. |
Hendrik | So it is true. I scarcely believed it possible for a star to fall from the sky, but now I have seen it with my own eyes. |
Hendrik | So it is true. I scarcely believed it possible for a star to fall from the sky, but now I have seen it with my own eyes. |
Hendrik | Unless we find the hammer Erdwin
used to forge the Sword of Light, we will be unable to make one of our
own. Our situation is clear, <pc>. Without that hammer, we stand no chance of defeating the Lord of Shadows. |
Hendrik | It seems the people of
Gallopolis have either fled or given in to despair. I can only sympathise with their plight. If the star were to collide with the kingdom, it would bring unimaginable death and destruction. |

Hendrik | Indignus was a formidable foe.
We did well not to underestimate the Spectral Sentinels. Now just one remains—and no matter who stands in our path, we will dispense with them in the same way. We are here for Mordegon. Anything else is a distraction. |
Hendrik | Indignus was a formidable foe.
We did well not to underestimate the Spectral Sentinels. Now just one remains—and no matter who stands in our path, we will dispense with them in the same way. We are here for Mordegon. Anything else is a distraction. |
Hendrik | I too have known hesitation and
doubt. It was no easy decision to pledge my sword to your cause,
<pc>. Jasper faced the same decision, and chose poorly. Whatever doubts or fears he had, Mordegon manipulated them and drew him towards the darkness. …There is only one lesson to take from this. We must walk the path we are on without doubt or hesitation. I choose to face the future and not look back—my friend is gone. Jasper is gone… |

Hendrik | As we prepare to face the Lord
of Shadows, we should remember that there is more to life than pain and
bloodshed. Look around us, <pc>. This place speaks of hope and new beginnings. Let this spur us on as we face our greatest test. |

Hendrik | When all of this is over, I know
what I must do. I must return to Heliodor and do all I can to restore it to its former glory. I must stand beside its future queen and fight for her kingdom. I am a knight of Heliodor and this is my pledge. |

what I must do. I must return to Heliodor and do all I can to restore it to its former glory. I must stand beside its future queen and fight for her kingdom. I am a knight of Heliodor and this is my pledge. |
Hendrik | Before he died, Jasper spoke of
his desire to surpass me. It shows that you can grow up with someone but never truly know them. I never knew how he felt, and he never knew what he meant to me… …No. I have dwelt on this enough. Let us focus on defeating Mordegon. All else is meaningless. |

Hendrik | When we were growing up, Jasper
always left me in the shade. Whether it was horsemanship, study or the sword,
I was always second best. I wish I knew when things had gone wrong. When did the darkness in Jasper’s heart lead him astray? Alas, lost time cannot be regained. All I can do to avenge Jasper’s death is to slay the one who led him down the path of darkness. Mordegon will pay the ultimate price, this I swear. |

Hendrik | Hm. The women here are far from
shrinking violets. I have been doing my best to avoid their advances, but it
is proving rather exhausting. If there is somewhere else you would rather be, <pc>, I am more than ready to accompany you. |
Hendrik | I am as keen as anyone to bring Veronica back, but we are talking about defying death itself. Can it truly be possible? |
Hendrik | There is nothing I can do. This is not my battle. |
Hendrik | You will find that in the past
we will be enemies once more. I trust, however, that you will allow me to
join you. …No, perhaps I have no right to make these demands of you. Whether we fight together or not, all I wish is for peace to be restored to the world. |
Hendrik | King Carnelian has ordered me to
protect Princess Jade with my life… I know full well that she can handle herself, but her father is very protective… |
Hendrik | King Carnelian has been in high
spirits ever since Princess Jade returned. It is just like the old
days. The people of Heliodor have had much taken from them, but this goes some way to making amends. Now a brighter future beckons for the kingdom, and I will do all I can to serve my people, come what may. |
Hendrik | The people of Cobblestone still need you, <pc>. Can you not see that? |
Hendrik | As a proud soldier of Heliodor,
I have learnt to hide my emotions. We were trained not to express ourselves,
but to keep our minds focused on battle. However, I refuse to hide my gratitude to you, <pc>. You have given me more than you will ever know. And I am certain that we will meet again, somewhere, some day… |
Hendrik | Heliodorian armour was never
designed for cold climates. Even thinking about that battle with Jörmun sends a chill down my spine… |
Hendrik | Whether it be a brother, a friend or a teacher, there is nothing more important than having someone you truly trust, and who truly believes in you. |
Hendrik | Surely I am not the only one who is feeling the cold. Come, let us head to warmer climes. |
Hendrik | There is truly no end to Don
Rodrigo’s talents. He has mastered those dance moves with the dedication he
once applied to the sword. It seems I still have much to learn from him… |
Hendrik | I do hope Don Rodrigo is coping
with his new companions and their dance routines. They are cheerful, to be sure, but being around them all day every day would wear out the patience of a lesser man. |
Hendrik | It seems your father was a truly admirable king, <pc>. It is a great shame that he cannot be here with us. |
Hendrik | I know what it is to be robbed
of one’s family by Mordegon. Zwaardsrust was a beautiful kingdom. Now it lives on only in my heart. So many lives were lost. All I can do for them is to honour their memory. |
Hendrik | Being here does not bring back
good memories. It reminds me of the time I was Mordegon’s unwitting servant
and was pursuing you, <pc>. To think, I even treated Princess Jade as my foe. The shame will live with me forever. |
Hendrik | The ruins appear to have been
inhabited by the Watchers—until Mordegon’s powers caused them to fall from
the sky. I wonder how many islands once floated above us… |
Hendrik | It seems Princess Jade is rather
taken with the creatures from the wall painting. If it would please her, I would gladly track one down and bring it to her. |
Hendrik | The tower is far more impressive
up close than it is from the air. Indeed, it resembles the ancient library we visited. I should not be surprised if they both date from the same era. |
Hendrik | Can someone really return from
the dead? I have my doubts… Could it actually be possible to bring your parents back, <pc>? Or the people I lost when my home was destroyed? It seems too good to be true… |
Hendrik | There are powers that only the
Luminary possesses. We could not have seen the visions Yggdrasil showed us
without you, <pc>. Perhaps these Spirits of Lost Time are the same—perhaps they are invisible to all but you. |
Hendrik | I dislike long goodbyes. You have made your choice. You should not tarry here. |
Hendrik | There is something strange about
this place. We must proceed with caution. This tower was not the work of ordinary humans, that much is certain… But who could have built it? Gods? Monsters? |
Hendrik | ……… |
Hendrik | Princess Jade craves monsters to
fight, and I pity any who stand in her way. Such strength, such courage… She is an example to us all! |
Hendrik | The very moment I met Princess
Jade, I vowed to protect her and always stand beside her. That vow still stands. To rebuild the kingdom will be a huge task, but I will share her burden. |
Hendrik | Although he is yet a child,
Atsuo displayed rare fortitude and determination. He certainly has what it takes to grow into a leader. Perhaps one day he will have the chance to govern this village. |
Hendrik | The thought of Prince Faris one day ruling over this realm does not inspire confidence in the kingdom’s future… |
Hendrik | I hope that Obsidian and I will be able to take part in a race one day. I am confident that I would be a match for anyone—including you, <pc>. |
Hendrik | Princess Jade takes after her
father in having a very sweet tooth. I have rarely seen her so content. I shall track down the finest delicacies in this town and present them to her. I consider it nothing less than my duty. |
Hendrik | It pains me to admit it, but I do not tend to be lucky in situations such as these. |
Hendrik | King Carnelian would not be
happy if he knew I had allowed Princess Jade to return to this terrible
place. Might I suggest that we leave as soon as you have finished whatever it is you want to do here. |
Hendrik | Princess Jade will not speak to me about what happened in this village. Clearly it affected her deeply. |
Hendrik | Such extraordinary creatures. It
is no wonder that I feel rather flustered in their presence… …Wait! Please ignore what I said! I did not mean to voice my thoughts! |
Hendrik | I shall never forget the moment
when Sylvando presented Avarith with that horse dung… The question remains, however… Just how did he carry it around with him? There are some feats I fear I could never equal… |
Hendrik | When we first found Rab up here,
I thought he was mummified. I do not scare easily, but I was terrified when
he started to move. Even thinking about it makes me shudder. Indeed, I regret mentioning it at all… |
Hendrik | I have fond memories of the
library back in Heliodor Castle. When I was young, I would compete with my
companions to see who could read the most. I loved tales of derring-do and books about magical feats. They were so exciting, it never felt like study. |
Hendrik | Three decades have passed, but
the memories have not faded. This will always be my home. I pray that my family and friends have returned to Yggdrasil and rest now in peace. |
Hendrik | Queen Frysabel must be around
the same age as Princess Jade, but she seems much more mature somehow. Perhaps the Princess will become more even-tempered and less impetuous when she takes the throne, but somehow I have my doubts. |
Hendrik | It is clear the Watchers have
powers that we who dwell on the surface cannot begin to imagine. How else could they have built their homes in the sky, or protected the memories of the first Luminary for so long? |
Hendrik | The days when I called you
Darkspawn are long gone, <pc>. You have let me join you, and for that I
am grateful. Now I will do all I can to protect you. I will be your sword, and your shield. |
Hendrik | Thank you for allowing me to
join you, <pc>… I feel nothing but shame when I think of the times I
called you Darkspawn. Know that those days are gone. Now I am at your service, and that of the Princess. I will fight to defend you to the very end. |
Hendrik | It sounds as though the Watchers
may know something about this dark star. Let us do as our new friend says, and speak with their Elder. |
Hendrik | If our Watcher friend is right,
then the Dark One defeated by the first Luminary has returned. It is clear that there is far more to this tale than one could ever hope to guess at. We must not rest until we know the truth. |
Hendrik | The Watchers clearly have
knowledge that far surpasses ours. Those floating stones alone are beyond the
capabilities of anyone on the surface. Once our battle is at an end, I would very much like to bring craftsmen from Heliodor here. They would learn a great deal, I am sure. |
Hendrik | I must confess that I feared the
worst when the Elder collapsed. Fortunately, it seems he only needed some sleep. At his age, it is no surprise. |
Hendrik | We owe the Elder a great deal.
Not only did he grant us new powers, he also presented us with the Wheel of
Time. Once we have defeated the Dark One, we should bring him some kind of gift to show our gratitude. Indeed, I know just the thing. The pillowmakers of Heliodor are unparalleled in their craftsmanship. For someone who spends most of their life asleep, a pillow would make an ideal offering. |
Hendrik | More than one Watcher has told
me that I remind them of Drustan. I do not see the resemblance myself, but nevertheless it is an honour to be likened to a hero of legend. |
Hendrik | We could never have hoped to
reach this place without Cetacea… And the same is true of many other areas, I am sure of it. Let us seek them out. |
Hendrik | It appears that the Dark One is
protected by some kind of barrier—one that not even Cetacea can
penetrate. All we can do is search out the seedlings and see if they can offer us guidance. |
Hendrik | If we wish to confront the Dark
One, we must find a way to penetrate the barrier that surrounds him. I
suggest that we speak to someone who has battled with him in the
past… Our journey is drawing to a close, <pc>, but first we must find Serenica. |
Hendrik | I was born and raised in
Zwaardsrust, but I had no idea that the mountains concealed such a
secret. They may be mere ruins now, but people made their homes here once… |
Hendrik | I was born and raised in
Zwaardsrust, but I had no idea that the mountains concealed such a
secret. They may be mere ruins now, but people made their homes here once… Perhaps they were the guardians of the sacred seedling? |
Hendrik | I know little about this place,
but it is famed for the pilgrims who come here to hone their bodies and minds
in the harshest of conditions. Perhaps one day I will return here and test myself. It may well prove educational. |
Hendrik | I can understand why you would be drawn to that curious tower, <pc>, but there are other things we must be doing. |
Hendrik | The Dark One will doubtless be a
mighty foe, but we should go into battle without fear. My destiny is to protect the Luminary. I will be your sword and your shield, and I will not allow us to be defeated. |
Hendrik | Interesting. The floating stones
used by the Watchers are also present in this tower. That is fortunate for us. Without them, I fear we would not be able to progress. |
Hendrik | The music that Serena and
Veronica played was extraordinary. I, I do not have the words to express how
it made me feel. Truly it seemed like a gift from heaven. It is no surprise its power transformed Cetacea. |
Hendrik | I wonder if the students here
ever have a chance to see their families? It is difficult to live away from home at their age. I admire their fortitude. |
Hendrik | The students here have their
whole futures ahead of them. It is our duty to ensure that nothing stands in their way. That is why we must defeat the Dark One, <pc>. |
Hendrik | I have never heard of a dark
star appearing in the sky, though I confess that there is much of our world’s
history of which I am ignorant. One thing that I do know for certain, however, is that this does not bode well… |
Hendrik | The forces of Heliodor did this
to Cobblestone, and I take full responsibility. I only wish I could have done
more to stop it. Still, what is done is done, and now I must attempt to make amends by helping to rebuild the village. I will not rest until it is back on its feet. |
Hendrik | The manner in which Cobblestone
has recovered is impressive indeed. The villagers and those who have come to
join them have worked hard. They deserve this. The next time we visit, I shall endeavour to bring some delicacies from Heliodor. A celebration is most certainly in order. |
Hendrik | I admire anyone who commits to a lifelong union—especially when they are as youthful as you, <pc>. Perhaps one day I shall do the same. |
Hendrik | I do struggle somewhat to
imagine you and Erik sharing the same abode. I have never found him to be anything other than companionable, of course, but making the leap to cohabitation is quite a different matter… |
Hendrik | I have nothing but respect and
admiration for Veronica, and I am certain that you shall reside together in
harmony for many years to come. Though I must say, her outraged response to Lord Robert’s choice of…reading material suggests that you would do well to keep any such…publications of your own well hidden… Ahem… Hmm? You have no such periodicals, you say? Yes, well… I suppose you are the Luminary, after all—I need not have worried. |
Hendrik | Serena may seem meek, but I can
confidently say that she possesses the greatest fortitude in our group. Even when surrounded by chaos, she does not allow her wits to abandon her. I suppose that is a different kind strength to that which I possess—perhaps I could stand to learn a thing or two from her. |
Hendrik | It would appear that Sylvando is
as comfortable in the domestic realm as he is on the battlefield. I cannot
fathom how one man can become so multitalented… I confess, I sometimes fantasise about being as capable around the house as he. What a life that would be… |
Hendrik | I trust that you will inform me
should the two of you ever be in need of protection? I am more than prepared to assemble a cordon of guards that shall surround your home at all times—not so much as a mouse shall get through on our watch! |
Hendrik | It has long been my desire to
study martial arts under Lord Robert’s tutelage… As such, I must admit to feeling rather jealous. Now that you are living together, you can have him teach you whenever you wish… |
Hendrik | It would be false to claim that
I foresaw our current arrangement… But Cobblestone is now my home, and I swear to defend it and its people with my life. Never again shall tragedy strike this village. |
Hendrik | It would be false to claim that
I foresaw our current arrangement… But life is full of surprises—I would not have expected to take much pleasure in going on walks, either, and now I can think of little I enjoy more. If time permits, I should like to pay Cobblestone Tor a visit… |
Hendrik | It seems that everyone in
Cobblestone climbs the Tor when they come of age… The Heliodorian army also has its own rites of passage. I remember having to take on my first dracky. A most frightening experience. I am sure there are similar rituals wherever you go in the world. It is important to mark the moment when one leaves their childhood behind. |
Hendrik | Nothing is more heartening than
the presence of an ally who can be trusted in battle. I am truly glad to have
you by my side, <pc>. However, I must apologise for demanding that you draw your sword… Alas, I have never been the best with people… Still, I was able to sense your strength and determination anew as our blades clashed. I swear to continue to serve as your sword and shield until the day I am no longer needed. |
Hendrik | Truly, you are a man of
formidable strength—you have come on in leaps and bounds since the day you
were cast into the castle dungeon. Now, let us proceed to the top of the Tor. Please do not ask why. |
Hendrik | As a soldier of Heliodor, it is
my sworn duty to protect the people of this realm. Now, however, I have others to protect—I must fight for the peace and security of all the people of the world. |
Hendrik | As a humble servant of Heliodor,
I know how much the return of Princess Jade means to the people of this
kingdom. In a world filled with so much darkness and despair, she will bring the light of hope into their lives. |
Hendrik | He may be gone, but my old
friend’s spirit lives on within me. Do not misunderstand me, I am not asking you to forgive him. We should not forget what he did—but nor should we forget what he once was. With his strength and my own combined, we will fight for you until the end. Together we will be your sword, your shield, your unswerving companions. |
Hendrik | This is not your fight. I must
face Jasper alone. This is a darkness I helped create and I alone must end
it. Please, <pc>. We must return to the balcony. A battle awaits me there that I cannot and will not avoid. |
Hendrik | That dark figure seems to know
about my past, and that of Jasper. I wonder, could it really be…? Come, <pc>. Let us go after it. I feel that it has something important it wants to show us… |
Hendrik | I get the distinct feeling that
black shadow has something it wishes to tell me. If we track it down, I believe we will learn more. Come, let us follow it without delay. |
Hendrik | My duty is to protect the people
of Heliodor, no matter how rich or poor they may be. Whatever the future holds, I shall not waver in my resolve. I would gladly lay down my life to defend this kingdom. |
Hendrik | The swords of Hotto are not like
those we use in Heliodor. The blades are curved, with just one sharpened
edge… Indeed, there is one legendary blade forged in this village that I have always wanted to wield. Perhaps we will come across it one day… |
Hendrik | I lost my whole family when
Zwaardsrust was attacked by monsters, but somehow I survived and was taken in
by the King of Heliodor. We were not related, but still he treated me like his own flesh and blood. I think of him as a father. Without him, I do not think I would have made it. I will never forget what he did for me. I owe him my life. |
Hendrik | The star’s true nature remains
shrouded in mystery… Let us do as the Seer said and call on Cetacea. We must pay a visit to the Watchers. |
Hendrik | Does the Dark One truly conceal
himself within that star? All I know is that he pollutes this world with his
evil. …Can you hear me, Calasmos? We will defeat you! Of that, there is no doubt! |
Hendrik | Gallopolis prides itself on the
fighting prowess of its desert knights, but even they will struggle to defend
the people from the monsters threatening the kingdom. Still, we have no choice but to leave this fight to them. We must focus on dealing with that dark star. |
Hendrik | We have dealt with the immediate
threat, but while that dark star hangs in the sky, the monsters will continue
to rampage. The evil must be cut off at source, before it is too late. |
Hendrik | It seems the dark star is doing
its baneful work—it has driven the monsters to overrun the town. We will not leave it at their mercy, however. We shall not rest until every last one of these beasts has been slain! |
Hendrik | I dislike talking about it, but
the statue they built of me here was to commemorate my part in the battle for
Dundrasil all those years ago. It does not become a warrior to boast of his achievements. I was simply doing my duty. I have no need of plaudits or praise, and certainly not of statues. |
Hendrik | This is where Arachtagon sought
refuge after we did battle… I remember landing a blow to his left eye, but somehow he survived. I dearly wish I had finished him when I had the chance. |
Hendrik | This is my home, <pc>. I
was but a small boy when the monsters came, but I remember it as though it
were yesterday. I lost everything that day, but I vowed that I would become strong and do all that was in my power to prevent anyone else suffering as I had. Nothing has changed. I still live by that vow. We must restore peace to Erdrea. Its people have suffered enough. |
Hendrik | Your father was a respected
king, sure enough, but he was also far more than that. He was a peerless
warrior and fine leader of men on the battlefield. I always respected him deeply, and to this day I aim to emulate him in all I do. |
Hendrik | I know it is too late for
apologies now, but when I think back to the time I tried to capture you and
Princess Jade here, I feel deeply ashamed. Well, at least some good came of it. This was where I began to doubt whether you were truly the Darkspawn. I just wish I had realised the truth sooner. |
Hendrik | Though I was here on that
fateful night, I could not save your father’s life… Nor could I save King Carnelian from what Mordegon did to him. Even thinking about it pains me still. |
Hendrik | The powerful weapon of which Don
Rodrigo spoke proved to be working together. As long as we trust each other,
we will be more than the sum of our parts. That is the only way to erase the dark star from the sky. Once again, Don Rodrigo has proven that his wisdom is beyond compare. If we can make use of the powers he has taught us, nothing can stand in our way. |
Hendrik | I have heard tales of the
legendary trials undergone by the knights of Puerto Valor. Now it seems it is
my turn to join them. I will not do this alone, however. Sylvando and I shall join forces and do battle with whatever foes await us in the Kingsbarrow. Let us take this trial and claim the mighty weapon of which Don Rodrigo spoke—and let us hope that it shall give us the power to rid the world of the dark star. |
Hendrik | I trained here under Don Rodrigo
in my youth, and Norberto—forgive me, Sylvando—was my fellow student. He has changed a great deal since I last saw him, of course. It is little wonder it took me such a long time to work it out. There was always something strangely familiar about him, however. I felt as though I had always known him, somehow. |
Hendrik | This town has changed greatly
since I came here as a young man. Building a casino here would have been
unthinkable back then… I have no interest in such places—do what you have to do and then let us leave. |
Hendrik | I learned from one of the
villagers here that you once defeated a tentacular that was terrorising the
ocean to the west. I have fought a few of the beasts in my time, but I always had a whole troop of men with me. I am impressed by your derring-do, <pc>. |
Hendrik | I did once hear of a place to
the west where ships would vanish without trace…and now it seems we are
here. There is indeed something unusual about this area. It is easy to imagine that people would just disappear and never be heard from again… |
Hendrik | I understand that this grey
gordon creature was imprisoning people and forcing them to dance for
him… Alas, I still fail to see what the purpose of it all might have been. Could anyone enlighten me? |
Hendrik | Are you familiar with this kind
of dance, <pc>? I am afraid it leaves me somewhat cold. Music was never something in which I had much interest, to be honest, though I still remember the marching songs of my youth fondly. |
Hendrik | Surely not… Surely we have not
actually entered the picture…? I have found myself in some unexpected places since joining you, <pc>, but none as odd as this. |
Hendrik | When this kingdom was frozen, I
was dispatched from Heliodor at the request of Queen Frysabel. I entrusted the hunt for the Luminary to my deputies and rode out here to see what was happening… But of course, I could do little for the kingdom in the end. It was you who saved it, <pc>, and yet I did not know you were a force for good at the time… |
Hendrik | Queen Frysabel and Krystalinda
have joined forces, proving once more that old foes can put the past behind
them. Krystalinda may have frozen the kingdom, but in the end, she did no serious harm. It is most noble of the Queen to allow her to make amends for her actions. |
Hendrik | The beast we vanquished had
defended the kingdom against the witch for centuries… We made a most terrible mistake. We were outsmarted by the witch and did her dirty work for her. The shame shall forever be seared into my soul. |
Hendrik | It seems that countless ancient
tomes are stored in the library’s vaults. Perhaps they could shed light on some of the mysteries of our world. I will recommend that the King dispatches Heliodor’s finest scholars to investigate further. |
Hendrik | Truly, the powers of the
Luminary never cease to amaze me. By wielding the Sword of Light, you saved
that child from a truly terrible fate. Your destiny is to give the world hope, and mine is to be your sword and your shield, and to do all that I can to protect you. |
Hendrik | Something is troubling Erik,
there can be no doubt about that. If there is anything we can do to help him, we should. We owe it to him. |
Hendrik | Arboria has a deep connection to
Erdwin and the heroes of legend—the ones who first did battle with the Dark
One. Let us speak to the people here and see if they can aid us in our quest to rid the world of the dark star. |
Hendrik | To think, if Dundrasil had not
fallen, you would have undergone training here as part of your education as
Crown Prince. Things panned out differently in the end, but it seems that fate has brought you here nonetheless. Let us undergo the training—I sense it will have much to teach us. |
Hendrik | It is most curious. It is my first time here, and yet it feels strangely familiar… |
Hendrik | Rab mentioned that students come
here to hone their bodies and minds to the limit… I have no idea what the training entails, but I must confess that I am rather interested in experiencing it for myself. |
Hendrik | Such extraordinary creatures. It
is no wonder that I feel rather flustered in their presence… …Wait! Please ignore what I said! I did not mean to voice my thoughts! |
Hendrik | I was always more suited to
doing battle on land. It was Jasper who excelled at naval warfare. In fact, he commanded the fleet that defended the coast of Heliodor, and he did it with utter dedication. …Why, Jasper…? Why did you allow yourself to be tempted by the darkness? |
Hendrik | It is extraordinary to think
that we were capable of forging a new Sword of Light! Truly, it feels as if we are following in the footsteps of Erdwin and the heroes of legend. |
Hendrik | How extraordinary… I have no idea how this place was constructed—and I suspect that questions of who built it and how shall forever remain a mystery. |
Hendrik | Miko spoke of a forge called the Crucible, hidden in the heart of the volcano. Could that possibly be true? |
Hendrik | It is hard to believe that there
is anyone still living here, on this ancient battlefield… Such a person must be some form of angel… |
Hendrik | Urgh! This heat is something
else! It feels like my axe could melt. And that would be a
terrible…axe-ident. …I’m sorry. I wish I had never said that. This relentless heat appears to have relieved me of my senses. |
Hendrik | I have known the name Drustan
since I was a boy. To think that he constructed this place and that it still stands is truly extraordinary. |
Hendrik | It seems these magic circles can
transport us from one part of the labyrinth to another. Let us see where each of them takes us. It will save on boot leather, and we may find ourselves somewhere rather unexpected. |
Hendrik | It seems it is no coincidence
that I fight alongside the Luminary. That is what Drustan implied. It is curious. I feel a bond with him. Meeting him was not like meeting a stranger. We both have roots in Zwaardsrust, of course, but perhaps there is more to the bond that ties us together… |
Hendrik | The people of Zwaardsrust have
always held Drustan in the highest esteem. After all, he is our kingdom’s
founder. To be able to trace our roots to one of the legendary heroes who defeated the Dark One is the greatest of honours. |
Hendrik | Can you feel it, <pc>? We
are growing ever stronger. We are honing our fighting skills, just as Drustan intended. |
Hendrik | This place is vast, and yet you
seem to know where you are going. Surely you cannot have been here before…? In any case, lead the way. I shall follow. |
Hendrik | Not only is Drustan one of the
first Luminary’s companions, he is also the founder of my home,
Zwaardsrust. To think, he has awaited us since the Age of Heroes. Truly, it is an honour to meet him. |
Hendrik | …Hm? We must be careful. I sense someone’s presence… |
Hendrik | We cannot stand aside and watch while Erdrea is in danger. Let us head for the Tower, <pc>. |
Hendrik | …… |
